In Japan, soups and stews are common during the colder seasons. Nabemono, or Japanese hot pot dishes, are considered to be the most sociable way to eat with friends and family.
Shabu-Shabu is the onomatopoeic name of a type of Nabemono due to the swish sound of chopsticks descending into a community pot filled with simmering broth. Shabu-Shabu is typically at the center of the dining table and is meant to be shared by multiple people.
Join us for our first Shabu-Shabu Dinner at Basan!
Dates: January 10th, 17th, and February 7th
Price: $45 per person

In Western Civilization we daydream about the stories our parents and friends told us of Bigfoot, mermaids, and the Loch Ness Monster. The endless possibilities of what creatures could be out there in the world don’t stop where the West ends. Although we are over 6,000 miles away from Japan, we share a common cultural aspect. Both cultures pass down stories of imagination, wonder, and a hint of terror to the generations to come. However, in Japan these stories are referred to as Yokais.
What is a yokai you ask? Yokais are the realm of supernatural monsters, spirits, and demons in Japanese folklore. They are bizarre and unique creatures.
